I am the Director of the MEng Engineering degree programme and Professor of Autonomous Systems Engineering in the Department of Automatic Control & Systems Engineering. I was previously Director of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Sheffield and am extremely passionate about interdisciplinary engineering and its role in shaping the world and our lives.

I graduated from the University of Southampton with a BEng in Aerospace Systems Engineering and a PhD in machine learning. I also worked for two years in accountancy which gave me a wider perspective of professional work and the importance of other disciplines like law and finance. Since joining Sheffield in 2000 I have held numerous positions. I am a founding member of Sheffield Robotics and the Deputy Director of the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre in Control and Monitoring Systems.
