The CIWEM New Generations Competition for 2017 is coming up on 8th March.

The branch uses this competition to determine its candidate for the CIWEM Young Environmentalist of the Year, giving you regional and perhaps national recognition. In addition the Branch winner will win free CIWEM membership for a year and the Otter Trophy.

If you're interested in competing, send an abstract (approx 150 words) of your presentation, with your name and details of your employer (where appropriate) to Robert Berry ( The deadline for submissions is 5pm on Friday 3rd February. You will be notified on Monday 20th February if you have been successful at the abstract screening stage, giving you time to prepare your presentation.

Good luck and we look forward to hearing from you.

Have your say

This year we are giving Branch members the opportunity to vote on the best abstracts submitted. The abstracts will be anonymised and we will be asking for your views between 8-17th February, so watch this space and have your say.

The event

At the New Generations Competition, you will hear from the three young members in the region. Each talk will last 20 minutes and there will be an opportunity to ask questions and quiz the presenters.

The CIWEM President for 2016-17, Bruce Keith, will be at the meeting and presenting the Otter Trophy to the winner.  He will be available before and after should you wish to discuss anything with him.
